International business software provider NFS Technology has successfully hosted leading industry experts to discuss the evolution of the workplace.
The roundtable discussions entitled ‘From Facilities to Workplace Management’ was sponsored by AON and chaired by Harvey Atkinson of The Building Futures Group.
Involving influential leaders from rising facilities management companies, young manager’s forum and members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) the roundtable introduced key topics including the role of the facilities manager in enabling the transition to the workplace of the future.
Discussions also highlighted the key issues that facilities managers will need to address in the future and how the next generation of FM leaders be developed to meet the challenges of managing the future workplace.
Chair and Head of Stakeholder and Partner Relations at The Building Futures Group, Harvey Atkinson said: ‘It was a pleasure to chair the roundtable. It was immediately apparent that there is great passion amongst the future leaders of FM to raise awareness of the value of the sector to their clients, decision makers and the public alike.
“The world of work is changing and we are potentially on the cusp of a workplace revolution where for the first time four generations are working together, the traditional 9 – 5 is no longer the norm and technological advances are moving at an unprecedented pace.”
“What was apparent from the round table discussion is the desire of the future leaders to harness the many opportunities that are available, and to ensure FM is seen as an essential component of the workplace.”
The event also showcased two real life presentations by Centrica and AON, providing a perspective of the journey both companies are taking to provide a workplace conductive to agile working.
Mr Atkinson concluded: “All participants agreed that FM cannot be seen as utility, but instead needs to be recognised as a force for positive change that increases productivity, aids recruitment and staff satisfaction. Embracing such changes and promoting the role of the FM sector as a key driver for change in the work place, will be essential in ensuring the UK to continues to retain its edge in a fiercely competitive global market.”
